Barnet Council is giving residents and interest groups the chance to have their say on new proposals to upgrade the Underhill stadium.

Council Leader Cllr Victor Lyon is launching a local consultation exercise to test opinion on Barnet FC’s plans.

The move follows a public meeting at Ravenscroft School last month where residents also had an opportunity to express their views and ask club representatives and the council leader questions about the latest proposals.

Questionnaires will now be sent to all households around the ground asking for views on the proposals, which include:

  • New club offices and supporter facilities
  • New catering and toilet facilities
  • New South Stand
  • New North Stand
  • Roof for the North Terrace
  • New pedestrian access from Barnet Lane
  • New vehicle access from Barnet Lane
  • Match day parking for players and officials

The development plans call for a slight expansion of the Underhill site into green belt land. The St John’s Ambulance will remain and new facilities will be provided for the scouts. There are only limited implications for Barnet Cricket Club and discussions are taking place with them.

Cllr Lyon said: “We want to carry out as wide a consultation on these proposals as possible. We believe the new plans merit consideration, but we want to be sure that any solution for the club also meets the concerns of local people.”

Any proposals would be subject to planning permission.

Barnet FC is also looking to develop new training and academy facilities at the Quinta and Grange in Mays Lane as part of their plans. These will be dealt with through a separate planning application and consultation process. The club is also in discussion with the council about the King George V playing fields.

Comments on the Underhill stadium proposals are welcome from residents and groups across the borough and should be sent to the

The closing date for consultation is Monday, December 22.
